Morphologic diagnosis:
Proventriculus: Severe acute mucosal hemorrhage and congestion
Clinical description:
NDV can produce hemorrhagic lesions throughout the gastrointestinal tract. In this chicken, there are severe lesions in the proventriculus and gizzard.
Pathologic description:
The proventricular mucosa is diffusely red and swollen. The reddening is particularly prominent at the esophogeal/proventricular junction (right side of image). Blood tinged fluid is present in the ventriculus (gizzard).
