Clinical Signs:
Torticollis (head and neck)
Clinical description:
Non-poultry avian species (e.g. pigeons, parakeets, parrots) vary in their susceptibility to Newcastle disease. Often, these species are capable of resisting early lethal infection and develop chronic neurologic disease instead. In these species, neurologic signs are the predominant form of the disease, regardless of the virus pathotype (i.e. both viscerotropic and neurotropic infections). This bird is exhibiting torticollis, a neurologic sign characterized by a lateral twisting of the head and neck.
