This image was taken 5 days post experimental inoculation with neurotropic velogenic Newcastle disease. Evaluation of the perching reflex shows a suboptimal response, an early indicator of neurological disease.

The photograph of this bird was taken 4 days post inoculation. The bird was experimentally inoculated with Neurotropic Velogenic Newcastle Disease virus [Texas/GB/4/22/88] on 3/2/08 at Plum Island Animal Disease Center. The inoculation was performed via ocular drop.
