Clinical description:
This image was taken 3 days post experimental inoculation with viscerotropic velogenic Newcastle disease. The beak has been transected at the level of the nasal turbinates. Lateral pressure is being applied over the turbinates in the nasal cavity, showing the accumulation of mucus. Respiratory signs, including mucus in the respiratory tract, can be associated with both low virulence and high virulence NDV.

History:
The photograph of this bird was taken 3 days post inoculation. The bird was experimentally inoculated with Viscerotropic Velogenic Newcastle Disease virus [MO/31387/96] on 3/2/08 at Plum Island Animal Disease Center. The inoculation was performed via cloacal swab using 0.1ml.
