Thymus: hemorrhages, atrophy.
Clinical description: 
This image was taken 4 days post experimental inoculation with viscerotropic velogenic Newcastle disease virus. Hemorrhages and atrophy of the thymus, as seen here, may be observed. This lesion is usually only found in young birds, whose thymus is normally still visible. There is also subcutaneous edema evident in the neck region.

History: 
The photograph of this bird was taken 4 days post inoculation. The bird was experimentally inoculated with Viscerotropic Velogenic Newcastle Disease virus [MO/31387/96] on 3/2/08 at Plum Island Animal Disease Center. The inoculation was performed via cloacal swab using 0.1ml.
